Sebagai tanaman buah, sirsak masih kalah pamor dibandingkan dengan buah lainnya seperti jeruk, apel, rambutan atau durian. Hal ini dikarenakan buah sirsak tidak begitu menarik untuk dikonsumsi secara langsung, disamping itu buah sirsak juga tidak bisa bertahan lama. Hanya sebagian orang saja yang mengkonsumsi sirsak secara langsung. Pada umumya buah sirsak lebih nikmat disajikan dalam bentuk makanan kecil seperti dodol atau bisa juga dicampurkan ke dalam minuman seperti es campur, jus, es krim dan lainnya.

Sebenarnya tak hanya buahnya saja yang dapat dimanfaatkan. Tetapi daun sirsak juga dapat dimanfaatkan karena memiliki banyak khasiat. Banyak di antara kita yang belum tahu akan manfaat daun sirsak, karena dulu memang belum ada penelitian tentang daun sirsak. Setelah ada penelitian tentang manfaat daun sirsak, kini sirsak pun menjadi tanaman obat yang populer dan tentunya juga memiliki nilai ekonomis yang tinggi.

Sirsak merupakan tanaman tahunan yang dapat tumbuh dan berbuah sepanjang tahun. Tanaman ini dapat tumbuh hampir di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, sehingga tanaman ini juga memiliki nama daerah yang berbeda-beda. Sirsak memiliki nama latin Annona muricata. Bagian yang sering digunakan untuk herbal adalah daun dan buahnya. Efek herbal dari sirsak antara lain adalah sebagai antikanker, antidiabetes, antibakteri, antijamur, analgesik dan antimutagenik.

Senyawa yang terkandung dalam sirsak antara lain adalah alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, steroid/ triterpenoid dan asetogenin.

Ekstrak Daun Sirsak

Daun sirsak dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi beberapa jenis penyakit kanker. Senyawa acetogenins dalam daun sirsak terbukti bisa menghambat ATP (adenosina trifosfat) yang merupakan sumber energi untuk pertumbuhan kanker. Dengan menghambat sumber energinya, maka sel kanker tidak dapat tumbuh dan berkembang dan akhirnya akan mati.

Berbagai riset di Amerika Serikat menunjukkan bahwa sel kanker payudara, usus, ovarium, prostat, paru-paru, liver, pankreas dan limpa mampu dibunuh oleh senyawa yang terdapat dalam daun sirsak tersebut. Senyawa itu membunuh sel kanker tanpa mempengaruhi sel-sel lain yang masih normal. Senyawa aktif dalam daun sirsak meningkatkan pemompaan P-glycoprotein untuk menghasilkan senyawa bersifat antikanker (kemoterapi). Hasil riset beberapa orang peneliti menunjukkan bahwa daun sirsak memiliki kemampuan membunuh sel kanker 10ribu kali lebih ampuh dibandingkan dengan teknik kemoterapi. Kelebihan lain daun sirsak dibanding teknik kemoterapi bahwa senyawa dalam daun sirsak tersebut hanya menyerang sel kanker dan tidak menyerang sel normal dalam tubuh. Berbeda dengan teknik kemoterapi yang rentan membunuh sel-sel tubuh yang masih normal.

Contoh ramuan daun sirsak sebagai terapi kanker adalah dengan menyiapkan 10 lembar daun sirsak yang berwarna hijau tua kemudian cuci sampai bersih. Rebus ke dalam 3 gelas air, hingga tersisa sekitar 2 gelas. Kemudian angkat, saring dan dinginkan. Air rebusan tersebut diminumkan rutin kepada penderita 2 kali sehari. Setelah minum maka badan penderita akan terasa panas, mirip dengan efek kemoterapi, bahkan lebih hebat lagi karena rebusan daun sirsak hanya membunuh sel-sel yang abnormal dan membiarkan sel-sel yang tumbuh normal.

Selain mengatasi penyakit kanker, daun sirsak juga bermanfaat untuk abses, asma, bronchitis, batuk, diabetes, demam, disentri, gangguan empedu, jantung, hipertensi, cacingan, gangguan pencernaan, rematik, tonik dan lainnya.

Sirsak kaya akan vitamin C dan serat. Secara tidak langsung kedua zat tersebut juga dapat membantu para penderita wasir. Hal ini dikarenakan vitamin C dapat menguatkan lapisan tipis dalam anus. Sedangkan serat dapat membantu melancarkan proses buang air besar. Kandungan vitamin C yang cukup tinggi pada sirsak merupakan sumber antiokasidan alami yang sangat bagus untuk meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh dan juga untuk memperlambat proses penuaan. Bagi para penderita sakit lambung hendaknya berhati-hati dalam mengkonsumsi sirsak, karena kandungan vitamin C nya yang sangat tinggi.
